Not a bad doco for a Canadian eh! Tēnā koe Maori TV for the music docos they are putting on on Saturday night during May. The Fat Freddies Drop one before it was pretty cool too. The machine watched them for me on Saturday and I'm having a catch up tonight.

Game of Thrones. Just watched episode 5. It's kind of like HBO's Rome, but set in a fantasy world. It's rather good.

Skins & Misfits.

Two completely random UK dramas of teenage kids and young parole workers with special powers. :D

RED has got to be one of the best movies I have seen in a while.

Got out Nude Nuns with Big Guns, I expect it will be a highly intellectual soul searching documentary.

11 years ago I paid to watch Mission Impossible 2 at the movies. It was burned into my memory as truely apalling. I never bothered to see Mission Impossible 3, nor the earlier Mission Impossible.

Mission Impossible was on TV last night, sad to say I will never get those 2 hours back. Tom Cruise, you have become a mark of avoidance.

Complete crap - Really lame dialouge and a complete lack of a plot. He has some very predictable one-liners, and she can look cute from some angles, but she's not really, so what's left?

After watching a season and that was a marathon, completely agree!

Engrenages. A gritty French cop show that was shown on UK TV so is available subtitled. Lots of gratuitous autopsy and crime scene shots, great drama and characters. Judge Roban is legendary.

Avoid the Danish 'The Killing'. It gets compared to Engrenages, but is quite twee, with improbable cliffhangers that turn out to be red herrings every episode.

A Linux compile flying past on my screen.

Oh and a Cisco debug session on another.

Yay for still being at fucking work - and being stuck on the West Coast just for extra kicks.

If you can handle watching a series week to week, another French cop show called Braquo has just started its subtitled run. It is a bit more 'fantasy' than Engrenages, and is about four leather clad corrupt cops trying to clear the name of a colleague who commits suicide after being arrested for corruption/brutality.

I think these shows are great, because they take something as familiar as a US police procedural drama/CSI and twist it with French WTF. Engrenages shows the inquisitorial style of police/judicial investigation, where police investigations are basically run by investigating magistrates with the input of prosecution and defence lawyers. In Braquo, they cock up an arrest as it happens too late at night, so they have to let the guilty party go.

Season 3 of Misfits started this week. Gone is Nathan (the actor left to do films), but he has been replaced by Joe Gilgun, who starred in This is England.

Speaking of which, This is England '86 is truly excellent. It is a short TV series sequel to the film (which you kind of have to see before the TV series). Both are about skinheads in Thatchers England, and there will be a third two hour christmas special set in 1988 this year.

Party Down, about actors who work as catering company waiters. Only lasted 2 seasons though as the lead left to do films:

Another 2 season wonder is The Riches, with Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver as the heads of a (US) Irish Traveller family who steal the identity of a couple who die in a car crash, and then take over their identity and house in a gated community.

Karl Pilkington is a genius! :) The original XFM radio recordings of Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington are just about the funniest thing every made in the history of mankind. Some of them were remade into the animated HBO's Ricky Gervais show. Worth a watch, but I'd go with the radio shows first any day.

I've started to watch Engrenages - good find! I've only thus far watched the first episode, but I'm enjoying so far bar a couple of cheesey lines..... "she was murdered for her beauty...". Not quite The Wire, but it's looking good. Charlie Brooker seems to like it too.
