If you are using the cloud for storage instead of having your files physically on the device, then you can't access them when you have no cell reception.

It only backs them up there, they're still on the device, its not like google apps etc which require internet to run and access data

Most of it, depends on what apps you install, but you wouldn't bother with anything but the 64Gb IMHO, much more practical!

But there is no way to add files when you are out of internet. If you have a USB stick or SD card with files on it, you can't get them on an ipad without having internet access or a computer to push them through?

I can't beleive a "technology journalist" could be so dumb and trusting. Safe in the cloud. F**K NO. It's a damn good lesson to others though, Mr Hacker has performed a necessary social service there.

If you don't have two physical copies of your data in two different locations, then it's not secure.

Pffft!! Spoken like a man who hasn't been in a big earthquake. We had three copies in 3 locations - one bounced to death, one drowned by silt, and the other in my bag, which remarkably I thought to pick up on the way out. :rofl:

We now have a drone server in Dunedin that dutifully copies our server located in a bunker in Christchurch, which itself has a mirror.

given the general smallness and shakiness of all of NZ (looks like the NI is getting ready to pop) a totally off-shore backup is starting to look a pretty sane investment

We have some stuff synced to servers of ours in the US, some stuff out of town as well, some stuff to our offices here, we learnt the hard way, too many eggs in one basket!

I know a few who did red-zone-raids on their own businesses to get computers back. :shock:

Well in the end I ended up with a iPad mini. Needs changed plus I can get the dirt app to read there mags with.
